Service Life: 12 Months

Under standard usage conditions and with regular cleaning, this filter can last up to 12 months. For optimal performance, replace every 6 months.

Maintenance

To maintain peak performance:

• If flow rate slows, gently scrub the ceramic surface with a clean, abrasive pad under running water (no soaps).
  

• Avoid letting water enter the open plastic mount during cleaning.
  

• After 3+ days of non-use, flow 1 litre of water through the cartridge to waste before use.

How to Install the British Berkefeld® Ultra Sterasyl® Ceramic Filter Candle for Gravity Systems

1. Preparation

• Wash your hands thoroughly before handling any components.

• Clean all parts of the gravity system to avoid contamination during assembly.   

• Check the filter candle type – ensure that you are following the correct instructions for the Ultra Sterasyl® model.

2. Installing the Filter Candle

Place the sealing washer over the threaded stem of the filter candle.

• Insert the filter candle through the hole in the upper container of the gravity housing, with the stem pointing downward.

• Secure with a wing nut from underneath the upper container. Tighten by hand – do not over-tighten.

• Ensure the outlet tap is turned off before filling with water.

3. Conditioning the Filter

• Fill the upper container with cold water.

• Allow the water to filter through the candle into the lower container.

• You may notice black particles in the water – this is normal due to the carbon granules inside the ceramic.

• Discard the first batch of filtered water completely.

• Repeat the process.

• Continue the process until the water runs clear.

• Wipe the inside of the lower container with a clean cloth to remove any remaining dust or particles.

4. Final Notes

• Initial black water is expected. It will clear after conditioning.

• After 3+ days of non-use, always flow 1 litre of water through the cartridge to waste before consuming.

• Reduced water flow over time is expected due to particle buildup. To restore flow:

• Remove the filter.

• Gently scrub the ceramic surface using a clean, abrasive kitchen pad under running water.

• Avoid letting water enter the open plastic mount during cleaning to prevent contamination.
